West Coast Premiere

A bank heist goes horrendously wrong and the three criminals behind the job, with the police hot on their trail, go on the run across the country.

Their first hostage is an innocent young woman grabbed from the parking lot of a shopping mall. Eventually, the robbers need a new escape vehicle and end up taking an additional hostage – a man with a sick child in the back of the car whose survival urgently depends on a hospital visit.

Soon, a vicious road trip reveals the true nature of all the passengers in the car. Dark secrets will come out, blood will be spilt and whomever survives will have to be the most vicious beast of all.

Although remaking Bava’s unfinished, brutalist masterpiece might seem like a sin upon first consideration, Èric Hannezo achieves the unthinkable: He reinvents the source material without ever needing to over-complicate it.

Like the original, Hannezo’s version is a lean, savage road trip with some of the most despicable characters you’re ever likely to meet. Each hides a dark secret, each wants to manipulate the situation to their own advantage, and each wants to survive.

This ugly, barbarous collision of inhumanity and basic survival instinct, set to a pounding electro-score, takes themes from its source material to new highs – or rather, lows – for unnerving, unmissable cinema.

An electrifying cinema experience only fools would miss.
