Hosted by The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail

Who knew the guys behind Comedy Central’s late night stand-up smash, THE MELTDOWN WITH JONAH AND KUMAIL, were hardcore movie fans? We did! Fortunately for us we’ve been able to pry them out of The Melt and bring them to Beyond Fest to talk movies and play one of their favorites, the super smart, super fun, super awesome THE MONSTER SQUAD.

When released in 1987, THE MONSTER SQUAD was a slow burn with mainstream audiences who missed the joy and inventiveness heaped upon us by Fred Dekker (the stellar Night of the Creeps) and Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3). History has since proved those non-believers dumb as rocks as the film built a fevered following from fans the world over. The lazy comparison was always to Donner’s The Goonies, however, THE MONSTER SQUAD is a singular experience in which all of us monster fans were able to see ourselves waging battle against the all-star terror team of Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman and Gill-man: this is a film both FOR us and ABOUT us.

Before we screen THE MONSTER SQUAD, Jonah and Kumail will grab the mics, sharing with us their deep and slightly twisted love of movies (racist Freddy Kruger anybody?) before being joined by THE MONSTER SQUAD director, Fred Dekker where they will discuss the size of The Wolfman’s nards amongst many other topics.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is going to be fucking awesome.
