THE HOLY MOUNTAIN
1973, ABKCO Films, 114 min, Dir: Alejandro Jodorowsky
Alejandro Jodorowsky tells another story of one man’s spiritual quest: This time the character is a thief who travels to the titular mount to find a group of alleged “immortals.” Jodorowsky adds a layer of self-conscious irony to the proceedings, constantly drawing the audience’s attention to the artifice of the filmmaking in sequences that expose the mechanisms of the special effects or show characters bleeding blue instead of red. In Spanish with English subtitles.

SANTA SANGRE (Free Bonus Screening!)
1989, Severin Films, 121 min, Italy/Mexico, Dir: Alejandro Jodorowsky
Combining elements at once beautiful, grotesque and erotic, SANTA SANGRE is something akin to Fellini remaking both PSYCHO and NIGHTMARE ALLEY as one single, glorious fever dream of a thriller. If you haven’t seen it, do not miss out!

Screening format: DCP. | Special Ticket Prices: $25 General, $20 Cinematheque Members. No vouchers.
