Tucker and Dale are two hillbillies headed out to their ‘fixer-upper’ vacation cabin to relax, drink some beer and do some fishing. However, when they cross paths with a group of college kids en-route to the same forest, they find themselves mistaken for chainsaw-wielding, in-bred serial killers and it’s not long before the whole bloody mess turns eye-poppingly violent.
Eli Craig’s feature debut still stands as one of the funniest horror-comedies of the decade, playing on horror tropes and archetypes in a smart and engaging way that exemplifies the best of the genre. However, where Craig goes even further is his embracement of the over-the-top gore setpieces which spill through at an alarming, comical rate throughout the film’s running time.
Tyler Labine and Alan Tudy excel as the titular anti-heroes who only want to enjoy their holiday and an admirable cast of game performers round up the rest of the college gang; by turns hysterical and equally violent.
