West Coast Premiere
Director Andrew Patterson’s debut is a wildly imaginative tale that brings together brilliant elements around an intriguing and unique central mystery; it is a wholly original and energizing calling card for an incredibly talented and wonderful director.
Set over the course of one exhilarating night in New Mexico during the 1950’s, a young switchboard operator and a DJ attempt to uncover the mystery behind a strange frequency whilst the residents of their town are focused on a crucial high-school basketball game. What they uncover will not only send them down a rabbit hole of gargantuan proportions but also threatens humanity in ways they could never imagine.
Channeling the aesthetics of classic sci-fi films, but doing it in a way that is wholly unique, Patterson’s film is awash with long, single takes, intriguing one-on-one interviews, and the kinetic, pacy unraveling of a mystery so enchanting it is impossible not to be rooted to your seat. Centered around two incredible performances by Sierra McCormick and Jake Horowitz, the film is purely dazzling magic and wonder. Dizzying. Breathtaking. Superb. “The Vast Of Night” is absolutely one of our favorite films of the year and of any that we’ve ever programmed.
