Nick’s ‘Are You Afraid Of The Dark?’ Reboot To Premiere At Beyond Fest

THE MIDNIGHT SOCIETY IS BACK! Nickelodeon’s beloved 90s kids’ cult classic, ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?, is reimagined for a new generation and will screen the first two episodes on the big screen at Beyond Fest.

Beyond Fest is excited to announce the premiere event of Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? The three-part limited series event sees the return of the Midnight Society, with Beyond Fest bowing the first two episodes on Monday, Oct. 7. Courtesy of Nickelodeon, the special screening is an all-ages, family-friendly event built specifically for fans young and old and free to all guests with tickets obtained via RSVP (seating is subject to availability on a first-come, first-serve basis, details below).

Following the screening will be a special Are You Afraid of the Dark? panel with stars Lyliana Wray, Sam Ashe Arnold, Miya Cech and Jeremy Ray Taylor, ACE Entertainment’s Spencer Berman, writer BenDavid Grabinski, and director Dean Israelite. Berman, Grabinski and Israelite all serve as executive producers. After the Are You Afraid of the Dark? panel will be a 35mm screening of the ‘80s thrill-ride, The Gate, a film specially selected based on its shared sensibilities with the limited series.

Across the three hour-long episodes, Are You Afraid of the Dark? will follow members of an entirely new Midnight Society, who tell a terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom and its evil ringmaster Mr. Tophat, only to witness the shocking story come frightfully to life.

The new members of the Midnight Society are: Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick); Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (IT Chapter Two, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween); and Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).

Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Sam Raimi’s EVIL DEAD to theaters for the first time in 4K with a terrifying new soundtrack!

This special edition of EVIL DEAD presents the horror classic for the first time with a reimagined score by original composer Joseph LoDuca and a thrilling new 5.1 surround mix created by Marti Humphrey and Jussi Tegelman, the award-winning sound crew behind DRAG ME TO HELL and ASH VS. EVIL DEAD.

Star BRUCE CAMPBELL explains, “Mixing the sound for EVIL DEAD in the early ’80s, we were forced to shove everything into one monaural box. As a result, Joe LoDuca’s great score had to compete unfairly with Kandarian Demons, gore sound effects and lots of screaming. With this new release, Joe can finally have his dynamic composition mixed, balanced and featured properly – for perhaps the first time ever!”

Grindhouse Releasing owner Bob Murawski worked with Raimi to restore EVIL DEAD from the original 16mm camera negatives and brought the stunning 4K transfer together with LoDuca’s new soundtrack. Murawski is an Oscar-winning film editor whose work with Sam Raimi includes DARKMAN, ARMY OF DARKNESS, THE GIFT, SPIDER-MAN 1, 2, & 3, DRAG ME TO HELL, and ASH VS. EVIL DEAD.

“With this fantastic new score, Joe LoDuca proves that he’s the Bartok of blood, the Shostakovich of shock, the Mahler of the macabre,” Murawski said. “The new music, new sound mix, and new 4K restoration have elevated EVIL DEAD from the scary to the sublime.”

Beyond Fest is screening EVIL DEAD: REIMAGINED on October 5th, which will feature a live set from Joe LoDuca before the film screens, performing select cues from THE EVIL DEAD with a live chamber orchestra. Death Waltz Recording Company has produced a commemorative version of the brand new rescore exclusively for Beyond Fest, pressed on 180g blue, neon green, and red splatter vinyl, housed inside an exclusive Necronomicon slipcase with a Beyond Fest obi strip! Tickets are going fast.
